Terminology (Biology/Language)

This post is about bases, prefixes, and suffixes. With the knowledge of this you can dissect words and figure out a rough meaning of the word without a dictionary. Of course there will be many posts like this to further your knowledge of these bases, prefixes and suffixes.

*relating to or adapted for both land and water

Andr- man

Oid- having the shape of/ like

*An android is a robot or synthetic organism designed to look and act like a human. (This definition was taken from google. Note how it is technically wrong. Andr means man not human so it would be a robot designed to act and look like a human man! )


Misogynist

Mis/o/gyn/ist

Mis- hate

Gyn – woman/ female

Ist- one who

*one who hates women

Anthropomorphic

Anthrop/o/morph/ic

Anthrop – man (more like as in human being)

Morph- form

Ic- pertaining to

*having human characteristic even though it is not human.
